In addition to the art displayed at the Glenn House Inn, there are a number of events and activities in the surrounding area which visitors can enjoy during their stay. The town of Yellow Springs boasts a number of shops, restaurants and events, beckoning those who would enjoy walking the provincial sidewalks. The neighboring nature preserve, Glen Helen, spans a space of one thousand acres, with bike trails and hiking. Visitors can spend the day enjoy stunning views along cliffs, waterfalls, and the town's namesake, the Yellow Springs. For the more indoor types the Nature Shop, Trailside Museum, and Raptor Center are also an enjoyable and educational stop over.
The Little Miami Bike Trail is a challenging 80-mile ride extending from Yellow Springs to Cincinnati. This bucket list event is a way to enjoy the scenic views of the countryside and come out the other side with bragging rights. Another park nearby includes the Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve with a glacial canyon, stuffing views and hiking trails. This park is a view into pre-history with a post-glacial canyon cutting.
The John Bryan State Park is a great place for fishing, hiking, canoeing and any number of outdoor activities. This area is named as having the “most scenic” views in this part of the state. A number of hiking trails are available for any skill level.
The Springfield Museum of Art is another perfect stop for art lovers. The Center for the Arts at Wittenberg University houses a range of galleries including rotating exhibits, local artists and permanent exhibits year round. Another museum available to visitors is the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Visitors can take a glimpse into the rich history of military aviation. There are over three hundred exhibits of vehicles and missiles. Guests can peruse historical artifacts and learn about the Wright brothers unforgettable influence on aviation history.
Depending on what time of year it is, guests can also take part in some of the local events which take place in Yellow Springs. Twice a year in June and October the Yellow Springs Street Fair occurs with a variety of vendors, local artisans, crafts. Not to mention the Music and Beer festival.
The Summer Arts Festival offers a timespan in which visitors can enjoy special openings at a variety of galleries. With a reception on May 20th, this year's festival takes place between that date and extends through June 12th. On the weekend of October 15 and 16 of this year, visitors can get a behind the scene's glimpse of the creativity. On these dates, select artists will open the doors to their studios to allow visitors to watch and stroll through for the Open Studios event.
