Built as a summer camp in 1923 and surrounded by the pristine beauty of the Deerwoode Wildlife Reserve, Deerwoode Lodge, and Cabins is now a tranquil adults-only retreat on the banks of the French Broad River in North Carolina that offers provide luxurious accommodations and an array of outdoor activities and recreational pursuits.
Rustic wooden lodgings are cozy and comfortable with vintage decor, old stone fireplaces, modern amenities and beautiful woodlands and river views. Winding walking trails offer excellent hiking and mountain biking, The French Broad River is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing and the woodlands are home to a plethora of wildlife and birds to watch out for.
1.Deerwoode Rooms & Suites
Deerwoode offers a variety of beautifully restored, historical cabins that present inviting and romantic retreats for every occasion. Stand-alone cabins are spread around the property, built from vintage hardwood and each offering good levels of privacy and serene views. Every cabin features a queen-size bed with plush linens, a private bathroom with shower and/bath, vanity and towels, a sitting area with a small refrigerator and a porch with lovely views. Larger cabins have fully equipped kitchens with washer/dryers, coffee makers, and utensils, and all cabins enjoy air-conditioning and ceiling fans.
Coyote Lodge has four bedrooms and is ideal for larger groups or families traveling together, catering for up to eight people. Each bedroom features a queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom with bath/shower combination, a cozy electric log stove, and air-conditioning and all four bedrooms open onto a large lounge area with massive stone fireplace and comfortable seating. The Lodge has a fully equipped central kitchen with refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, sink, and coffee pot, as well as a table and chairs for dining and entertaining. The lodge also features an indoor/outdoor cooking facility with gas and charcoal grills and tables and chairs for outdoor entertaining.
The River Otter Cottage is an inviting one-bedroom cottage on the property for couples wanting extra levels of privacy and seclusion. The cottage boasts stunning white floors and pine cathedral ceilings throughout and features one large bedroom with a queen-size bed and private bathroom with bath/shower combination. A spacious living room has a gas log fireplace, television with Direct TV and a fully equipped kitchen offers washer/dryer, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. The cottage has central climate control, a private carport and covered porch with spectacular views.
Deerwoode Lodge and Cabins have fully equipped kitchens for self-catering, however, there are several restaurants in the nearby little town of Brevard, such as The Hob Nob, The Square Root, Fall’s Landing, Jordan Street Cafe, Big Mile's and The Quarry.
Deerwoode offers an extensive array of facilities and amenities for guests to enjoy, including an eight-acre lake for canoeing and kayaking, seven ponds for catch-and-release fishing, and several miles of walking, hiking and biking trails. The French Broad River also offers fishing for trout and muskie, while the surrounding woodlands and pristine wilderness is a certified wildlife habitat that is home to over 140 species of bird, wildlife, and trees, including a historic White Oak and Poplar Tree.

The Deerwoode Wildlife Reserve offers a network of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding and Pisgah Forest Stables and Whitewater Equestrian Center offer guided outrides and trails.
There are a variety of opportunities for water sports in the area on the French Broad River, lakes and ponds, including kayaking, white water rafting, smooth water float trips, and fly fishing. Deerwoode is set along a mile and a half of French Broad River frontage which offers excellent fishing for trout, crappie, muskies and largemouth, as well as eight lakes and ponds for fly-fishing.
The world-renowned Looking Glass Rock in the Pisgah National Forest and the nearby Cedar Rock is famous for its variety of climbs, and The Brevard Rock Gym offers indoor opportunities for beginners and experienced climbers to practice.
There are five excellent golf courses within a few miles of Deerwoode, including Glen Cannon, Connestee Falls, Broadmoor, Etowah, and Cummings Cove, the Brevard Music Center is home to an open-air auditorium that hosts world-class concerts and the Porter Center for Performing Arts offers year-round theatrical performances. Downtown Brevard has plenty of shopping and full service day spas that offer pampering body treatments and salon services.
