Filled to the brim with interesting historic attractions, Genoa is a must-visit town for anyone travelling to Nevada. This little town was the first pioneer settlement in the state, founded by the Mormons in 1851. Today visitors can combine outdoor activities like hiking and biking with a number of excellent historic attractions including the Mormon Stations State Historic Park, the Genoa Courthouse Museum, the Genoa Bar and the pretty Pink House. After you have admired all the historic sites you can go hiking on the North River Fork Ranch or take on the Genoa Loop Trail before returning to town for a well-earned drink at the Genoa Bar. The Mormon Station State Historic Park pays tribute to the early Mormon pioneer settlers, who established the first non-native settlement in Nevada. Back in 1851 the pioneers built a simple trading post along the epic California Trail to offer supplies and a place to rest for the many travelers making the hazardous journey across the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Sadly, the original trading post was burnt down in a massive fire in 1910 and the structure you will see today is a reconstruction of the original. The replica trading post serves as a museum which is filled with historic exhibits and artifacts and is surrounded by peaceful gardens and trees.

Celebrating the first town to be settled in Nevada, the Genoa Courthouse Museum is a must-see attraction for all visitors. Originally used as the town’s courthouse, the museum takes one back in time to the early pioneer days in Nevada. Prior to the arrival of the Mormons, the earliest settlers in the area were Native American Indians, some of whose meticulous weaving crafts are on display. In the Courthouse Exhibit you can admire the original oak furnishings of the courthouse and the Snowshoe Thomson exhibit celebrates the ingenuity of a former postman who used skies to navigate his route across the mountains. Other highlights include an antique nursery exhibit, as well as a Victorian Parlor, Blacksmith shop and much more.

Your visit to the oldest town in Nevada would be incomplete without stopping by the historic old Genoa Bar, the oldest watering-hole in the state. The Genoa Bar is a legendary landmark which has seen a passing parade of celebrities over the years and is filled to the brim with nostalgic artifacts and photos. Aside from the Budweiser sign and the bright red pool table, the interior seems to be little changed since the 1800’s and the bar still serves up a full range of drinks to a large following of regulars. Rustic outdoor seating complements the historic interior and the atmosphere is always lively.

The Pink House is located right in the heart of Genoa, where it currently operates as a cheese and charcuterie store and a restaurant. The house is one of the oldest in the state, having been built in 1855, just a few years after Genoa was established as the first pioneer settlement in Nevada. Originally not pink, the Pink House was built in the popular 19th century Gothic Revival style and was known as the Reece House. Today visitors can combine a bit of history with a delicious meal in this beautiful historic setting. The menu features cheese and charcuterie boards, soups, salads, entrees and sandwiches, as well as daily special desserts.
