Garden City is located on what was once an actual garden farmed by hundreds of Chinese immigrants. The location of the town along the banks of the Boise River was, and still it, ideal for farming. Today visitors to Garden City come to enjoy its rural atmosphere and a good selection of attractions. Water sport fanatics can enjoy canoeing and kayaking as well as white-water rafting at the Boise Whitewater Park. Fly fishermen can fish for trout right in the center of town and arts and crafts enthusiasts can follow the Artisans Pathway Map to discover a wealth of artists and crafters’ studios. The town is also home to a great many craft beverage producers including wineries, breweries and an artisan cider producer. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Some restaurants are currently offering pickup only. Hours/availability may have changed.

What started off as a love of the land and the amazing produce found on her parent’s farm has turned into a full-time labor of love for winemaker Melanie Krause who, together with her husband Joe own and run Cinder Wines. The winery is named for the volcanic cinder which forms part of the soil on which their vineyards are established. Cinder Wines produces a range of wines using traditional and lesser-known cultivars like Tempranillo and Mourvedre. The Tasting Room offers tastings by reservation and is open daily. If you would like to know more about the winery and the wine-making process you can book a guided tour.
