The Abbey Resort, a Family Lake Vacation in Wisconsin
The Abbey Resort is a full-service resort spanning 90-acres and overlooking Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Built in 1963, it has recently undergone refurbishing in 2013 to ensure that its facilities are kept up to date. The resort is known for its traditional A-frame house designed to prevent snow from accumulating.
The resort provides a wide range of activities that cater to big groups, families, and couples alike. Among them, it is most well known for its water activities and features its own marina that provides guests with boat rental services.
Additionally, there are also first-class spa facilities onsite that offer guests complete treatments to help with the relaxation of the mind and body. Child-friendly amenities and services are also available to keep the little ones occupied while the adults indulge themselves. Photo: The Abbey Resort
»The Abbey Resort Rooms and Suites
The Abbey Resort has 334 guest rooms, including 13 suites. The units are fitted with patios or balconies where guests can enjoy their cup of morning coffee or tea with a scenic view.
Choose among resort, pool, or lake views when selecting rooms. Those with young children might prefer picking a ground floor room near the pool to make it easier to enter and leave the room. Others who wish to enjoy some peace of mind might prefer an upper unit room with spectacular views of the harbor.
All the rooms are designed to reflect the resorts unique waterfront location, featuring lakeside cottage furnishings and nautical designs. For shorter stays, the guesthouses and suites come equipped with queen- or king-sized beds and modern facilities, including flat screen TVs and free wireless Internet, access among others. For longer stays, the villas become a home away from home with two bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen to make sure guests feel comfortable.
»Dining at The Abbey Resort
The resort has four onsite dining options that cater to different taste palates. Its signature restaurant is the 240° West, which serves classic American dishes with a modern twist, such as lobster pot pie and salmon club sandwich. The establishment offers panoramic views of the harbor set, which is especially stunning at sunset.
Dine with your loved ones or family inside a smart casual atmosphere that features a large stone fireplace and a rustic wood beam ceiling. It is available for morning and dinner services, and check out its highly popular Saturday prime rib buffet.
Another casual dining offering would be The Waterfront, which has indoor and outdoor sitting areas right beside the harbor. Enjoy delicious barbecues, salads, and wraps at the establishment, and pair them with their signature Bloody Mary that comes with a dash of BBQ rub and summer sausage. Drop by on Fridays to enjoy unlimited fish fry, fries, and sides, all for a flat price.
For those in need of a morning coffee fix, Café Latte serves Starbucks coffee, breakfast items, and light snacks from as early as 6:30am up until late afternoon. The Porto offers a private dining option. Its waterside location makes it an elegant location for having intimate events and celebrations with family and friends.
Bar West is available every Friday and Saturday night offering signature cocktails, martinis, and an extensive wine and beer menu. Pair them with sharing plates or small plates such as spotted cow mac & cheese and short ribs.
»Spa & Golf
The resort houses its 35,000 square foot luxury Avani Spa with 17 rooms to provide complete massage, body, and facial treatments. Their signature massage combines the spa’s most popular treatments, namely the aromatherapy massage, foot reflexology, and hot stone massage, to relax and rejuvenate the body and mind for 75 minutes.
The spa is also equipped with a full range of salon services catering to the needs of both men and women clients. Receive pampering from head to toe, including deep hair conditioning treatment, body waxing, manicure and pedicure. Hair and makeup consultants are also available to offer advice and re-styling services to help those who need to get ready for a big night out.
Other amenities include a private pool, whirlpool, sauna, spa tub, and steam room. Purchase a full-day $25 pass to get full access to these facilities. Paying the amount also allows you to utilize the equipment at the fitness center as well as take part in its fitness classes.
Enjoy the Abbey Springs Golf Course, which was rated 4.5 stars by Gold Digest and is situated just a stone’s throw from the resort. The 18-hole course layout is surrounded by manicured greens, mature trees, and stunning views of Lake Geneva, making it one of the most beautiful courses to play in Wisconsin.
There are also plenty of elevation changes that will provide an enjoyable challenge for most golfers. Choose to dine in the onsite Clubhouse Grille restaurant, which serves hearty meals such as sandwiches, hot dogs, and pizzas, or unwind with your friends and family at the restaurant’s bar after a full day of play. The Abbey Resort offers a “Stay and Play” golf package that would give you access to amenities at both the resort and golf club.
The Abbey Resort prides itself on being a family-friendly resort that offers fun and activities for the whole family. Regular fixtures include a 2000 square foot arcade and an indoor temperature-controlled pool as well as craft and board games corners to keep the children entertained.
Every week, there is also a fireside s’mores night where kids love to huddle around the fire and roast marshmallows. The resort also updates its monthly activities based on the seasons. For instance, there is an onsite ice-skating ring for guests to use for free during winter.
During the summer, the outdoor pools are open for parents to bond with their kids in the specially designated family pool or hot tub.
In addition, the resort has babysitting services charged on an hourly basis to allow adults to enjoy spending time with each other. Reservations can be scheduled anytime of the week, from 7am to 12am, and will need to be requested at least two weeks in advance. The service is available for children up to 12 years of age, and each booking needs to be for at least three hours.
»Weddings & Conferences
The resort has 40,000 square feet of venue space and more than two dozen conference venues to accommodate a wide range of events, from wedding receptions to corporate meetings. Specialized planners are onsite and available upon request to assist guests with drafting customized packages to suit their needs.
For hosting weddings, there are multiple indoor and outdoor options throughout the resort. The Harbor Ballroom can accommodate larger crowds with more than 10,000 square feet of space. Its floor-to-ceiling windows are sure to impress, as they provide spectacular views of the waterfront. Guests can also gather at the Harbor Patio for a cocktail reception or witness the exchanging of vows at the Harbor Gazebo just a few feet away from the water’s edge.
The resort is also staffed with professional wedding consultants who can assist couples with their overall planning process down to the finest details. The package is inclusive of hotel rooms for guests, spa pampering treatments for brides-to-be, and post-wedding champagne brunch. They also tie in with local vendors to provide a wide range of services such as photography, floristry, and music and entertainment.
Given its ample meeting space, this place is also suitable for holding conferences and events. Attendees can easily travel down to the resort location, which is less than an hour away from Milwaukee and Chicago’s Northern Suburbs. The venues are fully furnished with wired and wireless Internet and state of the art audiovisual equipment to ensure meetings can proceed smoothly. If necessary, the resort can also provide catering services for guests. Corporate events can also benefit from the spacious accommodation at the resort for its retreat, and organizers might consider purchasing its team-building programs to help foster tighter ties and relationships among employees.
