Situated only around ten miles outside of the bustling city of Atlanta, Smyrna, Georgia could be described as an integral part of the state’s greater Atlanta metropolitan area. While the town strategically lies near three intrastate and interstate systems, it still retains a “small town” feel and has become one of the area’s most popular places. Smyrna is an ideal place to escape the big city for a while and is home to delicious food and opportunities for outdoor recreation at places like the Silver Comet Trail. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Some restaurants are currently offering pickup only. Hours/availability may have changed.

The Silver Comet Trail running through the town of Smyrna, Georgia is one of the state’s top trails for skating, cycling, walking, or running. This lengthy trail extends a little more than sixty miles, stretching from the suburbs of Atlanta in Smyrna all the way to the border of Alabama. Formerly a rail trail, the now paved and smooth Silver Comet Trail boasts an almost level grade thanks to the shallow tunnels, towering train trestles, and deep-cut channels. Hills found throughout the trail are very gradual and the pathway is nearly straight, featuring just some gentle curves.

The Concord Covered Bridge is part of Smyrna’s Concord Covered Bridge Historic Area. This historic bridge was constructed back in the year 1872 and measures sixteen feet wide and a little over 131 feet long. A former railroad bed, along with a handful of bridges within the area have now been converted into a bike trail and make up a portion of the Silver Comet Trail. Most of the bridges in the area have been transformed a bit to feature a timber motif. The Concord Covered Bridge was built over the Nickajack Creek and is open to traffic.
