Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa in Australia is the ultimate green getaway, surrounded by the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. The sustainably built resort has just 40 free-standing suites with private pools and outdoor terraces.
In addition to relaxing in nature, guests are pampered at Timeless Spa which has six double treatment rooms equipped with a Japanese-style soaking tub, a shower and bathroom. Relax before and after your treatment while you take an aromatherapy bath in a calm setting.
There are three types of suites with temperature-controlled private pools. Each has a wrap around verandah and a pool deck, offering plenty of space for outdoor living. Inside you will find binoculars for wildlife watching and two mountain bicycles.
36 Heritage Suites all offer scenic views of the valley. The private pool has a deck surrounded by native plants and shrubs. A double-sided fireplace separates the bedroom from the living area furnished by locally-crafted wood furniture. The suite bathroom has a separate shower and bath and is equipped with Babor bathroom therapies which are 100 per cent biodegradable.
Wollemi Suites were designed with honeymooners in mind. There are just three, each its own private luxury lodge.
The Wolgan Suite is a private self-contained lodge surrounded by a beautiful landscaped garden with private terraces and swimming pool.
The property is the first carbonZero certified resort in the world. It is built on 4,000 acres of a nature preserve and is working to protect endangered Australian flora and fauna by planting indigenous trees (over 175,000 have already been planted). The Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis), thought to be extinct, was reintroduced to the area.
During the construction, not a single tree was uprooted, in keeping with ancient Aboriginal traditions.
Look for special events when planning your stay, such as "Symphony under the stars", featuring members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Suite rates start at 1,560 AUD per night.
