The White Lotus Foundation is a beautiful retreat center in the mountains of Santa Barbara, California, that holds yoga teacher training courses four times per year. Established in 1967 and situated on 40 acres of rolling landscapes in the San Marcos Pass in Santa Barbara, CA, that was once owned by the Chumash Indians, the White Lotus Foundation offers a peaceful and serene location for meditation, yoga, and personal fulfillment.
The White Lotus Foundation provides a range of yoga courses during the year, as well as comfortable accommodations in the form of guest rooms, yurts, and campsites, and an array of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, swimming and more. Other facilities at the center include a large yoga-meeting room for gatherings and sessions, a dining room serving homemade vegetarian meals, a modern media center, and library for guests to use, and an underground Hopi style ‘Kiva’ temple.
White Lotus provides comfortable accommodations to those guests who are participating in any of the programs at the retreat. Various accommodation is offered ranging from private rooms to yurts, tents, and a loft, all of which have comfy beds with bedding and simple furnishings.
Private bedrooms are uniquely decorated with double beds, clean linen and pillows, electricity and heating, and are a short walk from the bathrooms that have toilets and showers. The loft features space for three guests with single beds, clean linen and pillows, electricity and heating, and overlook the lounge in the main building. Bathrooms with toilets and showers are within close proximity to the loft.
Spacious dome-shaped yurts with lattice wood canvas walls are popular with students, Featuring hardwood floors, skylights, heat and electricity, the yurts are decorated with hand-carved Balinese day beds, clean linen, and pillows and are just a short walk away from the bathrooms that have toilets and showers. Several large tents resting on platforms and furnished with comfortable single and double futons, clean linen and pillows are dotted about the property for those want to ‘rough it.’ Guests are also welcome to bring their own tent.
Guests staying at White Lotus can enjoy wholesome vegetarian meals that are prepared fresh and served three times daily. Delicious cuisine is prepared using organic, locally sourced ingredients hand grown in extensive organic vegetable gardens on the property. The center offers a vegetarian menu of meals that include dairy, and eggs, however, special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.

The Yoga Teacher Training course is a 16-day residential yoga certification program that teaches a non-dogmatic combination of classical and contemporary yoga techniques combined with new innovations and developments in the industry. The course curriculum includes the origins of yoga, how yoga works and the application and alignment of the art, the elements of classical yoga, and modern evolutionary developments. The course also covers instruction in White Lotus Vinyasa Flow Yoga, and daily pranayama and asana classes.
The Therapeutic Restorative Yoga Training course is a specifically designed program using gentle, restorative yoga, breath awareness, supported postures, and guided meditation to enable the benefits of restorative yoga. The course curriculum includes breath work, guided imagery, and hands-on modalities to balance the body and ease the mind.
The Thai Yoga Training course explores the ancient practice of traditional Thai Massage, whose roots can be found in Ayurvedic medicine, Buddhist spiritual practice, and yoga. This unique program blends acupressure, deep stretching, rhythmic massage, gentle twisting, and meditation to release tension within the body, increase vitality and enhance the wholeness of the mind and spirit. The course curriculum includes massage of energy lines (meridians/nadis), restorative yoga poses to facilitate deep relaxation, applied breathing exercises and stretching exercises, principles of active work, and how to work in a meditative state of mind.
The Advanced Training--Deepening Your Practice course is a comprehensive learning experience and practice designed to take yoga to the next level. This course is intended to provide continuing yoga education and training for teachers and experienced students, as well as a networking and personal rejuvenation tool.
