California boasts stunning natural beauty, a dramatic coastline, beautiful year-round weather, and an array of things to see and do, including Venice Beach, Hollywood, and the Napa Valley Wine Country.
One of the most famous stretches of coastline in America, Venice Beach, is home to a network of beautiful canals and a Venetian-inspired arcade that overlooks the beach. But it’s the eccentric crowd that Venice Beach is best known for and its world-famous boardwalk where wily street performers, beefy body-builders, skateboarders and beach volleyball players can be watched from one of the many cafés, bars and sidewalk stalls along the way. The pier at the southern end of Venice Beach is perfect for fishing.
A visit to Southern California wouldn’t be complete without popping into Hollywood, the home of film and entertainment since the 1920s. Otherwise known as Tinseltown, Hollywood is the base of many television studios which can be visited, as well as the star-studded Walk of Fame, the historic Chinese Theater. Home of the Art Deco-style Griffith Park Observatory, the outdoor Greek Theatre, the Los Angeles Zoo, and the iconic Hollywood sign, Griffith Park is another popular destination.
Starting in Vallejo just north of Oakland and stretching 35 miles northward along the famous Route 29, the Napa Valley’s flat valley floor and the surrounding volcanic hillsides are covered with orchards and vineyards. Small towns such as Napa, Yountville, Rutherford, and Calistoga are interspersed between rolling farmlands, which are dotted with famous wineries and beautiful estates, some boasting palatial mansions, Victorian houses and European-style castles.
