Designed by renowned Modernist architect Irving Gill, the Museum showcases some of the finest art in the southern California region, ranging from architectural glass, paintings, and sketches to art quilts, and studio furniture.

Housed in adjacent buildings designed by renowned Modernist architects, Irving Gill and Frederick Fisher, the 20,020 square foot Oceanside Museum of Art’s exhibitions showcase the art of the Southern California region including paintings, sculptures, studio furniture, art quilts, and architectural glass. OMA’s galleries are redesigned for each exhibition to create a fresh visual transformation. The Oceanside Museum of Art is made up of the classic Irving Gill designed building, which stands next to the contemporary three-level 15,000 square foot Frederick Fisher designed Central Pavilion to create an exquisite combination and seamless union of past and present architecture.

In addition to the highly acclaimed contemporary art exhibitions that the Museum hosts each year, OMA also offers a wealth of educational and other programming, including docent-led tours, music concerts, culinary events, movies and films, fundraising parties, and evening events.

Exhibitions at the Oceanside Museum of Art have include ‘Spitting in the Wind’ (2014) by Robert Matheny, Richard Allen Morris, John Baldessari, and the late Russell Baldwin, and ‘Project PAINT: The Prison Arts Initiative’ (2015). The most recent were ‘California Fibers: Eclectic Threads’ (2016), which featured 2-D and 3-D works of art in various mediums, including textiles, wood, and weaving.

The Oceanside Museum of Art also hosts off-site exhibitions at the North Coast Repertory Theatre Café & Gallery, which is located at the Lomas Santa Fe Plaza Shopping Center in Solana Beach.

The Oceanside Museum of Art is home to the Van Hunnick Education Center, which offers ongoing educational programs, workshops and classes for students, children, and families. Classes range from figure drawing and painting to paper-making, and art-related field trips are offered for school classes, scout troops, and youth groups.

The OMA also caters for scholars and students who are encouraged to explore their creativity through new artistic techniques, as well as to become part of the local creative community.
