Local Food Adventures first started as Rockridge Food Tour in 2014. The food tour company was started by a local resident who wanted to share the East Bay area's cultural urban village experience and food. Their guided food tours teach about the culture and history of the Rockridge and Grand Lake neighborhoods of Oakland, as well as sample some delicious food and take in the architecture of the European-inspired area. Each of the three tours offered by Local Food Adventures is a "progressive eating" experience, meaning participants will try enough food to be full, but not stuffed.
The Eat-Stay-Love Lafayette Food Tour is great for families, new residents, and visitors alike. Five different food spots are visited during the two hour tour that offer demonstrations and food samples of some of the best Lafayette has to offer. Samples include French-style pastries, savory and spicy dishes inspired by eighteenth century Mexican and Spanish Californios, and classic cupcakes with a modern twist. Participants will also have the chance to learn the correct way to taste balsamic vinegars and extra virgin olive oils that are sourced from throughout the world.
The Rockridge Neighborhood Heritage Food Tour lasts about three hours and involves around two miles of walking. This tour explores the fast growing food culture and rich history of the Rockridge area, while providing samples of delicious food. Locals may even be surprised by some of the little-known facts that are shared during the tour. Six different food spots that highlight the local food scene are visited, each with demonstrations and samples. Food samples during the include "Southern-Italian-meets-California" dishes, award winning wine from James Beard, margaritas, crispy chicken tacos, local and global cheeses from the area's first European-style marketplace, house-made sausages from a local butcher, and a fluffy and sweet morning bun from a French patisserie.
Local Food Adventures explores the wide cultural diversity of Grand Lake on its Grand Lake Cultural Cuisine Food Tour. As a mecca of global cuisine, the Grand Lake area is known for it eclectic population and influences. The one-mile, two-hour guided food tour includes a walk around Lake Merritt, and a chance to venture off the beaten path as participants sample food from around the world in a relaxed global atmosphere. This tour visits four different food locations that each provide tastings of some of the best food in the Grand Lake area.
Two of the food venues are sit-down restaurants, and demonstrations that showcase Grand Lake's ethnic diversity are also part of the tour. Tour-goers will have the opportunity to discover the best of Oakland on both sides: the area's urban center and beautiful Lake Merritt. On Lake Merritt's banks is a popular neighborhood kitchen that serves Italian comfort food that is sourced locally. Participants will also sample artisan seasonings, blends and spices from one of Food & Wine Magazine's best spice shops in the world. Other samplings include a traditional fluffy Parisian pastry from the newest French patisserie in Oakland, and tasty Asian dishes and dumplings from one of the newest restaurants in the Grand Lake area.
