Chalkboard, the small plate casual restaurant situated in the lobby of Hotel Les Mars, focuses on local fare. Ingredients may even come from the exclusive 3-acre garden, located at the Chalk Hill Winery nearby. Chef McAnelly uses organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown specifically for the restaurant and also works with local farmers to ensure freshness, local sustainability, and giving back to the community.
Guests can dine in the natural sunny atmosphere by the large pane windows, open kitchen, and newly redesigned White Oak floors. The unique seating design features a large banquet table carved with true European flavor out of old-growth oak and a long bar alongside the dining room that includes full menu options and cocktails. The choices range from fresh salads, pasta, meats, and seafood. The Fava beans come fresh from the garden to garnish the Artichoke salad. Entrees include the Roasted Rainbow Trout or the Buttermilk Fried Quail, just to name a few.
Mouthwatering desserts are as simple as Donuts and Coffee, though there is nothing simple about this high-end version, or as decadent as the Malted Chocolate Macaron or Cherry Crumble, featuring the al a mode version with carbonated key lime ice cream.
Nestled within the heart of wine country, the Hotel Les Mars has developed a unique relationship with surrounding wineries. Guests can stroll along as they take a complimentary tour, enjoying wine tastings and other amenities. Partner wineries include Chalk Hill, Lancaster Estate, Sebastiani, Napa County, Merus, Kuleto, and Foley Johnson.
All of these are high-end wineries that are locally owned and produce estate-grown wines. Chalk Hill creates unique blocks that are tended year round for a large selection of wines to tempt the palate. On the other end of the spectrum, Lancaster Estate focuses on the singular tastes of limited release Bordeaux, bottled onsite. A trip to Sonoma Square for shopping is not complete without a stop at Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery. This historic spot has been creating memorable wines since 1904.
Kuleto Winery and Foley Johnson, both located in Napa Valley, offer more choices for visiting guests. Koleto looks out onto a scenic view of Lake Hennessee. With three soil types, this location boasts everything necessary to create a plethora of flavorful wines. Foley Johnson Winery allows guests to enjoy the onsite tasting room for this year round location.
