Everyone loves the beach, and we really do mean everyone. The sun, sea, and sand aren’t just popular with humans; our four-legged friends can have a lot of fun in coastal areas too. No matter what kind of dog you happen to have, there’s a good chance that he or she will really enjoy the beach, running around on the sand, splashing in the water, playing catch, and so much more. Visiting dog-friendly beaches is a wonderful way to spend some quality with man’s best friend. Unfortunately, finding beaches that allow dogs isn’t always easy.

1.Twin Lakes State Beach

Twin Lakes State Beach is a large park area with both rocky and sandy spaces for dogs and their owners to enjoy together. As with most dog-friendly beaches in California, the rule at Twin Lakes State Beach is that all dogs need to be kept on leashes at all times, but there's still a lot of opportunities to have some on-leash fun here. The views at this Santa Cruz beach are particularly attractive, so it can be a fun spot to snap some selfies of you and your pup, and there are lots of good walking trails in the surrounding area and along the coastline.

2.Its Beach

If you want a dog-friendly beach in Santa Cruz where your four-legged friend can be let off the leash and really have some major fun, Its Beach is the one to visit. It's very conveniently located just a short distance away from the downtown streets of the city and leashes are allowed to be taken off here from early in the mornings and after 4pm in the afternoons. Dogs can use the beach at other times too, but need to be leashed. It's a small beach but there's still plenty of room to run and play, and nothing is more rewarding for a dog owner than coming here as the sun is setting and letting your pup run along the sand and splash in the water.

Head on down to Santa Cruz Harbor if you're looking for a fun spot in the city to spend some time with your four-legged pals. The views at this beach are really special, with lots of boats of all shapes and sizes being spotted from the shore, so it's a nice spot to walk along and look at the views or simply sit down and enjoy a picnic. The beach can get quite lively too, with young children splashing around in the water and groups of friends having fun playing volleyball and other games. Surfing isn't bad here either and you should definitely visit in the early evening to admire the sunset.

If you want to spend some quality time with man's best friend in Santa Cruz, Seabright Beach is a great place to do so. This beach is open every day until late in the evening and is fully welcoming to dogs. In fact, you're guaranteed to see at least a few happy pups bounding around on these soft sands every time you visit, but all dogs do need to be kept on leashes here. A good thing about this Santa Cruz beach is that it's very conveniently situated and can actually be directly access from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, so you don't even need to leave the city or get in the car to come here. Seabright Beach also has a lot of appeal to humans, being a good spot for swimming and beach parties.

5.Pleasure Point Beach

Pleasure Point Beach is a little-known beach in the Santa Cruz area that many tourists tend to overlook. A lot of people don't even know this beach exists, so it's always very quiet. The only people you'll really see here are locals out walking their dogs or strolling along the beach with their families to admire the views. Dogs need to be leashed here and you'll want to avoid the beach at high tide as the whole thing gets more or less covered with the waves. If you do visit at the right time, however, this beach is a cozy, relaxed spot to enjoy a picnic or even do some surfing.
