The Holter Museum of Art provides visitors and the general Helena community with a wide variety of educational opportunities for people of all ages. The educational opportunities at the Holter Museum of Art include; after-school programs, summer programs, classes, hands-on activities, and specialized group tours.
One of the most general and popular educational opportunities at the Holter Museum of Art is the specialized group tours. Groups and schools have the opportunity to visit the Holter Museum of Art and explore the museum with the guidance of a specially trained museum employee. During specialized guided tours, tour groups will enjoy a guided tour that lasts approximately an hour. Participants are free to sketch with black and white pencil throughout the tour, and engage in thought provoking discussions. It’s important to note that while tours are completely free of charge, groups and school field trips must book their tour at least two weeks in advance from the date they wish to explore the Holter Museum of Art.
While there are various educational opportunities for younger kids and families at the Holter Museum of Art, majority of the Holter Museum of Art’s educational opportunities are geared towards teenagers. One of the most popular educational programs for teenagers is the Afterschool Teen Arts Council. This initiative is the perfect opportunity for teenagers who are passionate about art, specifically contemporary art. Through the Afterschool Teen Arts Council, participants between the ages of 14 and 18 will create art, view performances and film screenings, learn from artist talks and workshops, and discuss art concepts alongside peers, museum staff, and even renowned contemporary artists. Thus, the Afterschool Teen Arts Council is the perfect educational initiative for teens who are considering pursuing a career within the art field.
