Dickerson Park Zoo is a zoological park that is home to more than 500 animals that represent more than 160 different species. Located in North Fort, Springfield, the Dickerson Park Zoo was established in 1922 with the mission of encouraging conservation, education, and research in the zoological field, as well as creating a family-friendly recreation park for the community to enjoy.
Dickerson Park Zoo offers visitors up-close adventures and encounters with hundreds of animals from around the world and features a variety of habitats and exhibits. Habitats include ‘Tropical Asia’ which is home to a range of animals from the East, including elephants, tigers, and siamangs, and ‘Missouri Habitats’ features animals that can be found in Missouri, such as mountain lions, wolves, black bears and river otters. The Ambler Diversity of Life Building is home to a plethora of reptiles and amphibians, including snakes, lizards, and frogs.

Dickerson Park Zoo offers educational programs and workshops for children and learners of all ages, including Z.E.B.R.A. classes, which feature live animal encounters with some of the zoo’s most popular creatures. Hands-on activities include arts and crafts projects, tactile biofacts to touch and explore, interactive tasks, stories, games and a snack. Some classes include a hike through the zoo grounds. Educational outreach programs are also offered for school classrooms, groups and civic organizations, as well as unique ‘Animal Encounters’ for preschools and daycare centers.

Dickerson Park Zoo is located at 3043 North Fort in Springfield and is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm (October–March) and 9 am to 5 pm (April–September), including all summer holidays. Free parking is available in the zoo’s parking lot, and additional parking is available in lots at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.
Dickerson Park Zoo offers a variety of food and drink options, including the Bush Country Café, which serves a variety of food from hot to cold, snacks, ice creams, and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as healthy options and “Junior Zookeeper” kids’ meals. The Outpost in the ‘Tropical Asia’ section of the zoo serves snacks and drinks during the summer season and soft drink, and water vending machines can be found throughout the park. The Safari Trading Company Gift Shop also sells a range of snacks, candy, ice cream and bottled soft drinks.
