Located at the base of Mount Washington in New Hampshire on the East Coast, the Omni Mount Washington Hotel is a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. From downhill and cross country skiing in the winter to hiking, golf and swimming in the summer, there are many activities to choose from.
The hotel was built in 1902 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has 200 guest rooms and suites and is located at the Bretton Woods Mountain Resort. Guests can also stay at the Bretton Arms Country Inn, the Lodge at Bretton Woods and the Townhomes at Bretton Woods.
The Mountain Resort offers 88 downhill trails, a ski school, equipment rentals and clinics. Or you can try Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on 100 km of groomed trails in the Valley and the White Mountain National Forest.
Snowmobiling rentals and hundreds of miles of interconnected trails are available in the area. The Nordic Center offers ice skate and snow tube rentals.
The best way to experience the serene winter atmosphere in New Hampshire is to take a scenic horse-drawn ride on the grounds of the hotel.
In the summer, visitors can go horseback riding, swimming, hiking, fly fishing and biking on their weekend getaway. There is also golf, tennis, racquetball, volleyball and badminton. Families can take advantage of various programs for kids.
The resort offers the 18-hole golf course, designed by the famous golf architect Donald Ross. The golf club includes the Cornish & Silva 9-hole Mount Pleasant Course, a 300+ yard driving range and 18-hole putting green.
There are two restaurants: the formal Dining Room is decorated with crystal chandeliers and offers live music dancing. Stickney's Restaurant & Lounge serves casual lunch and dinner with indoor and outdoor seating.
The Bretton Arms Country Inn offers 34 guest rooms and suites with private baths and high-speed internet access. The inn is within walking distance of the hotel. Activities include golf, tennis and skiing in the winter.
Ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway
Want to try something different from regular chair lifts? This winter you can ride the 135-year old steam-powered railway up the mountain and ski down to the Marshfield Station.
This is the world's first mountain climbing cog railway, so you can be sure that it will be a unique experience. It will travel to the base of Cold Spring Hill, giving skiers access to beginner terrain, and to the Waumbek Siding, for intermediate-level skiing and snowboarding.
Running parallel to the railway trestle is a one-mile-long groomed trail offering 1,100 vertical feet of skiing.
