The Doughboy Monument at DeBardeleben Park is a statue that was originally dedicated in 1922. It was sculpted by E. M. Viquesney, who referred to it as a homage to World War I – the war to end all wars. A blues lover’s dream, Gip’s Place is one of the few legit juke joints you’ll come across nationwide. The musical roadhouse is precious as they are far and few in between and is owned and managed by Herman “Henry” Gipson. It might not seem like a lot on the outside as there are no signs or lights highlighting the place, but when you hear it, you’ll know you’re there. It’s a wonderful place to knock back a few drinks and enjoy good ole’ country music, played live on stage by the in-house band or by visiting artists and bands such as Roger Stevenson, Little G Weevil, and Bobby Rush.
