Outdoor Activities

Outdoor Activities

The Lodge at Woodloch is nestled in the Poconos Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. Woodloch boasts a private lake, forested acres, and gardens, and it is close to the shore of the Lackawaxen River, which is a tributary of the Delaware River.

Outdoor activities beckon you. Fly-fishing in a year-round cold stream for wild brown and rainbow trout is one of the premier activities here. Fly-fishing and fly tying lessons are available, as are guided excursions to the faster-running Delaware River only 20 minutes away where trout and small-mouthed bass abound. Please note that a valid Pennsylvania fishing licence is required for all fishing at Woodloch.

The Country Club at Woodloch Springs is an 18-hole, par 72, 6,579 yard championship golf course, set across woodland, wetlands, and meadows, and it features a 14th hole that crosses a 220-foot gorge over river rapids 200 feet below.

There are four outdoor tennis courts, and rental equipment is available.

Kayaking on Woodloch’s private lake is a popular activity, as is hiking and biking on the nature trails that surround the lake and weave through the woods. Experienced cyclists will enjoy the rough terrain of the nature trails, while less experienced cyclists might want to try the back roads in the nearby Delaware State Forest.

River rafting on the Lackawaxen River is available in the summer, and snowshoeing is offered in the winter. Nature abounds at Woodloch, and bird watchers will delight in sightings of osprey, bald eagles, and great blue herons.

The Lodge at Woodloch is committed to farm-to-table dining and maintains a large market garden for that purpose. Lessons and informal talks about organic gardening are offered, as are demonstrations of companion planting. The head gardener welcomes assistance from guests of the hotel in the belief that getting your hands in the soil is beneficial to frayed nerves. The Lodge is very happy to have established two colonies of honeybees, which provide honey for the table, and Woodloch’s beekeeper regularly provides beekeeping instructions and talks.

If you desire further outdoor activities, The Lodge at Woodloch’s sister resort is only two miles down the road, and guests of the Lodge are welcome to use their facilities. There you can learn archery and shooting and scale their 30 foot climbing wall, ride a zip line through the trees, or enjoy using Segways on the nature trails.
