The Chanler at Cliff Walk is located in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island and offers impeccable service in a relaxed, tranquil atmosphere. There are a total of 20 rooms in this mansion style hotel, which are each decorated in a different time period. The Chanler is a wonderful mix of contemporary elegance and historic Newport charm. Rooms & Suites
At The Chanler there are five different room or suite categories to select from and within each category, several specific room choices. The Ocean Villas are found at the cliffs edge with private entrances and upper decks overlooking both Cliff Walk and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean at Easton's Beach. They boast private hot tubs and saunas along with elegant, historic décor.
The Garden Villas are like private, lush oasis', each with a private courtyard area complete with hot tub. Guests can sit back in the hot tub and enjoy the surrounding gardens and calming fountains. The Signature Rooms are themed after English Tudor, Louis XVI, Renaissance, and Regency periods. Each of the Signature Rooms offer a king size bed and whirlpool tub for the utmost in relaxation and retreat. Of all the rooms at The Chanler, these are the largest and most are even oceanfront.
Estate Rooms are the mid-size junior suites featuring either a king or queen size bed and ocean views. The décor of each room will transport guests to a different time period with the Gothic, Georgian, Mediterranean, and Empire rooms available. The Manor Rooms are the most economical room options at The Chanler. They are decorated and themed after the most celebrated architectural and decorative styles worldwide. Each room boasts unique antiques and furnishings as well as amenities including custom bedding. The Manor Rooms feature a queen size bed in each. Some have ocean views, soaker tubs and private balconies.
Dining
There are two year round dining options at The Chanler and one seasonal option, open throughout the summer months. Guests will delight in the menu choices as well as the dining atmosphere of their preference.
The Chanler and offers a fusion of New England dishes with classic French style and flare. Guests are treated to a meal in an intimate setting with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Parties of up to six guests can reserve a spot at the Chef's Table to enjoy the excitement and hustle and bustle of the open kitchen all while indulging in a complete tasting menu with wine pairings. For a la carte dining, the menu consists of mouth-watering selections such as Pan Roasted Colorado Lamb Loin and Nova Scotia Halibut. If the decision is too difficult to choose one item, a tasting menu is also available, however the entire table must order the tasting menu collectively.
The Cliff Walk Terrace is an outdoor patio area which is open during the summer months and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests can start their day with classic breakfast items like eggs benedict or omelets done just right or other signature items like “Spiced Pear” French Toast which features banana, Vermont maple syrup and spiced pear compote.
Meals are available in small plates, and lighter fare as well as delicious locally inspired comfort foods. Reservations are not accepted since service depends upon the weather.
The Veranda serves the same menu as the Cliff Walk Terrace, only indoors so that dining is available year round. It is a casual atmosphere with amazing views in the morning of the sunrise over Easton's Beach. They offer signature breakfast and lunch items such as the GQ Burger which received accolades from GQ magazine. In the evening the Veranda becomes an extension of The Spiced Pear for guests who wish to dine in a less formal atmosphere and enjoy the cuisine of the Spiced Pear.
Bars and Lounges
The Bar at the Chanler is open to both guests and the local Newport community to enjoy afternoon cocktails or an ale by sunset. The rich dark wood décor with hunter green and burgundy accents creates a chic, yet laid back atmosphere to mingle and meet with friends. The chairs featured at The Bar were once the bar stools at The Cliff Walk Manor and have been stripped and restored to become the leather bar chairs seen today.
The large windows allow for gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean and create an open airy feeling as well. Guests will enjoy selecting from the extensive list of drinks, including specialty drinks such as the Spiced Pear Martini or The Cliff Hanger. A light fare menu is available for guests wishing to have a bite to eat while enjoying a drink or two.
The Spiced Pear Restaurant is a great place for wine enthusiasts since their wine list is very extensive and the dinner menu outlines perfect wine pairings to go along with each entrée. Throughout the year, the Spiced Pear hosts wine tasting events on Cliff Walk to educate about food and wine pairingsand to explore different wine flavors.
The Spa
While there is not a dedicated spa at the Chanler, guests can reserve in-room spa treatments. A professional will attend the guest's room for services such as massage, aromatherapy bath using the in-room soaker tub or whirlpool and organic oils and herbs to create a relaxing, serene bath treatment. Guests can choose which aroma suits their specific needs from the Bath Menu. These aroma packages include Relax Light to assist with sleep, Revive Morning to help with awakening feeling refreshed, and De-Stress Mind to unwind and relax after a long day.
The front desk staff are happy to assist guests in reserving in-room massages and other spa treatments or guests can reserve a time slot well in advance of their stay to ensure the service is available when they prefer.
Golf
Although there is no golf course on-site at The Chanler at Cliff Walk, golf enthusiasts will still be able to enjoy a round or two of golf at nearby Newport National Golf Club. It is deemed to be New England's best public access course with beautiful, lush scenery and a challenging, yet fun 18 holes of golf. It is a link-style, par 72 course with over 7200 yards.
The course sprawls out over 200 acres of environmentally protected lands. There is a pro shop on-site should golfers require any equipment or assistance as well as a Bar and Grill to grab a bite after a long day on the course. With this course only a short 15 minute drive from the front doors of The Chanler, it is an ideal location to make it a day trip.
Weddings & Meetings
Weddings at The Chanler at Cliff Walk are memorable, elegant affairs which will exceed the expectations of both the couple and their guests. With stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, the expansive, lush lawns and gardens, and the spacious outdoor terrace, there are many options for couples to hold the wedding ceremony and reception they have long dreamt of.
The Chanler can accommodate up 120 guests within the mansion or in one of the several reception spaces available or if the guest list exceeds 120 people, the wedding can be held as a tented event on the oceanfront grounds of the hotel. The on-site planning and event staff work tirelessly to ensure each wedding comes together perfectly to create a magical, unforgettable day for the bride and groom as well as their guests. Catering is offered through The Spiced Pear and will have guests raving about the meal for weeks to come.
Meetings or other events are always welcomed at The Chanler. There are several spaces available to accommodate different size groups depending upon their needs and preferences. Cliff Walk Terrace can hold up to 120 guests; The Veranda is spacious enough for 28 guests; The John Easton Room is perfect for intimate gatherings or small meetings accommodating 18 guests; The Spiced Pear is a formal choice holding up to 50 guests; the Winthrope Boardroom accommodates 8 guests; and Exclusive Use of The Chanler can accommodate up to 200 guests for larger events and affairs.
Plan This Vacation
Exclusive to The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Buick has given an Enclave to the hotel for guests to use on a complimentary basis. This takes the hassle and headache out of renting a car once in Newport or finding parking at the hotel. Guests can arrange use of the vehicle through the front desk staff.
For an additional charge, Beach Butler service is available during the summer months up to Labor Day for guests at The Chanler. This service includes a complimentary round trip transportation to any of Newport's favorite beaches, a beach bag complete with beach towels, sunscreen and bottled water, a butler to escort guests to the beach with an umbrella, beach chairs set up by the accompanying butler, and a delicious picnic for two packed by The Spiced Pear Restaurant. What a perfect way to enjoy a day at the beach!
Guests wishing to explore the area are always welcome to the use of the complimentary bicycles provided to the hotel by Tokyobike. They are no ordinary bicycles, they are slow speed motorized bicycles available in either 7 or 8 speed. Guests will also have use of helmets for their safety.
