Mirror Lake Inn features three different restaurants, the award-winning sit-in restaurant The View, the casual dining Taste Bistro & Bar, and the Après Ski style lakeside restaurant The Cottage.

The View is perfect for anyone wishing to enjoy some fine dining during their stay. It’s the only AAA Four Diamond “Exceptional” rated restaurant in all of the Lake Placid area and has many numerous other awards as well. The décor of The View matches the rest of the hotel’s Arts and Craft style with beautifully carved wood and stone, with a stone fireplace taking center stage. The View is aptly named as the outside walls are covered in large windows featuring a lovely view of Mirror Lake and the surrounding mountains. The View’s ingredients are taken from farmers and crafters in the Lake Placid area and as such the menu changes constantly as different ingredients enter and leave their seasons, though an emphasis on New England staples are maintained throughout. The View is open for breakfast and dinner every day and features a breakfast buffet on weekends and holidays.

The Taste Bistro & Bar is perfect for the person looking for a more low key evening without sacrificing the quality of their food. Taste Bistro & Bar is decorated in a timeless New England fashion to match its menu items. The food is locally sourced and features comfort foods like the Taste Bistro’s signature pot roast, cooked with a touch of elegance. Where the Taste Bistro & Bar really shines, however, is its remarkable selection of cocktails, wines and spirits. Cocktails are a New York staple and the Taste Bistro has some unique spins on the classics to delight the palate. Both the cocktails and wines are constantly rotating with the seasons ensuring that customers have a drink to match the beautiful view of Mirror Lake right through the bar’s windows. For spirits, the Taste Bistro is known for its wide selection of whiskey featuring many flights of Scotch, Bourbon and whiskey. Live entertainment is available on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Cottage is the premier spot for visitors wanting to experience the joys of an old-fashioned sky lodge without climbing up the mountains yourself. For seating, customers can choose to sit in the quaint building next to a roaring fireplace, or sit on the outside deck that features heating and its own woodstove during the colder months. The menu of The Cottage is simple foods, featuring many different soups, sandwiches, and salads, perfect for a quick lunch or a late night snack. For a truly special treat, customers can try one of The Cottage’s signature Bloody Marys, ordered to their specific specifications. Beyond the food, though, The Cottage is all about the experience. The restaurant is located right on the edge of Mirror Lake and customers can paddle their boats right up to its deck for a quick refresher before hitting the water again. The Cottage truly shines in the winter months when the frozen surface of Mirror Lake is converted into two skating rinks right outside the restaurant. At night, lights and live music turn the skating rinks and restaurant into a relaxing place to sip a few drinks and enjoy the night.

The summer months are a great time for a visit to the Lake Mirror Inn for anyone who enjoys some beachside fun. There are plenty of activities to entice travelers out of their comfy rooms.

Mirror Lake Inn has access to a private golf course on their sister estate, Whiteface Club. The course winds through a pine forest against the Whiteface Mountain, offering gorgeous scenery as golfers play their game. One of the oldest golf courses in America, its location was chosen because the hilly terrain matched the courses in Scotland where golf was invented.

Mirror Lake Inn boasts a private beech along the shore of Mirror Lake. The sandy beach is a perfect place for a sunbather to lay down and enjoy the backdrop of the mountain range around them. The waters are free to swim in if a beach goer needs to cool off.

A 50 foot heated outdoor pool is right outside the main building of the inn. It offers a brilliant view of the nearby lake and mountains without the sand of the beaches.

Alongside the beach is a boathouse where paddleboats, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and paddle boards are all available to take out on the lake for no additional charge. Additionally, the boats are available to take out on some of the nearby lakes and rivers for the more adventurous traveler.

An o-site tennis court is open for anyone who wishes to use it. Balls and rackets are available from the front desk for anyone who doesn’t wish to bring their own with them.

Numerous hiking trails and bike trails are located on the Mirror Lake Inn property and immediately surrounding it. Some of the trails lead down into nearby Lake Placid, while others lead up into the mountains and offer a more secluded experience through the woods of Adirondack Mountains.

Winter Activities

Winter changes Mirror Lake Inn into a completely different experience. The cottage rooms, many of which are equipped with a fireplace, make for a good retreat from the cold. There are plenty of activities outside to entice guests to venture outside, however, as Mirror Lake freezes over and Mirror Lake Inn takes advantage.

Two skating rinks are maintained on the ice of Mirror Lake. Skaters of all levels are welcome to hit the ice and enjoy themselves. At night, lights circle the rinks so the fun can continue. The nearby restaurant The Cottage offers a deck with a woodstove for warming up along with cups of hot chocolate and toddy.

Snowshoes are available at the front desk for anyone who wishes to enjoy some winter hiking. The most recommended path is simply to walk across the frozen lake while taking in the mountains surrounding the Mirror Lake Inn.

For those wishing to explore the venues used by the two Winter Olympics, the Mirror Lake Inn will help schedule your events. Professional bobsledders can take visitors down the bobsled, skeleton and luge courses. A ski lift can bring visitors up to the tops of the ski jumps, and then the adventurous can take a toboggan ride down the jump and onto the ice of Mirror Lake. Skaters can visit the speed skating oval and try their hand at winning the gold or head to the skating rink where the “Miracle on Ice” happened when the US beat the more experienced Russian hockey team for the gold.

Whiteface Mountain, just a few miles away, is available to any who wish for a great place to ski. Whiteface Mountain is a premier ski destination, and the location where many destined for the Winter Olympics do their own practicing. No matter what ability, all will find a ski route suited for them.
