Legend has it that it was Al Capone’s favorite vacation getaway – and, with 100 acres of land surrounding the hotel, it’s not difficult to see why. The Four Seasons Island Resort is ideal for those seeking a change of pace: somewhere to unwind and explore. Thanks to its all-suite set-up, large groups can be easily accommodated, which makes it a lovely spot for family vacations. Photo: Photo: The Four Seasons Island Resort

Dining at Four Seasons Island Resort

There is a wide range of eateries on the island, ranging from formal and proper to casual and low-key. Choose from the Four Seasons Ristorante, the Boundary Water Sports Bar and Grill, or Lillies Ice Cream Shop and Luncheonette.

The Four Seasons Ristorante is the most traditional of the island restaurants, offering an upmarket dining experience serving meals made from only the freshest local ingredients. Its atmosphere is traditional and focused on providing a dose of old world charm. Open daily from 5 p.m. till closing time, the restaurant is an ideal choice for a romantic dinner in a sophisticated setting.

The Boundary Water Sports Bar and Grill exists as the antithesis of the Ristorante’, instead providing a relaxed atmosphere like you’d find in any nondescript but welcoming sports bar. The TV system shows sports games, and the fare is mostly bar favorites and drink: simple, nourishing classics. It’s open from 10 a.m. every day except Mondays, making it many visitors’ favorite spot to grab lunch.

Lillies Ice Cream Shop and Luncheonette is the final eatery on the island, and has a rather more unique feel than the other two. Modelled after a 1940s soda shop, the menu is chock-full of sweet treats, all-day breakfast foods and quirky lunch ideas. It’s a quaint place to sit and feel transported to a simpler time, and kids will love its sundaes and malts. Open from noon till 8 p.m., there’s always time to pop buy and indulge yourself.

The Four Seasons Lounge is the dedicated island bar, serving both soft and alcoholic drinks to the resort guests. While it’s only open on Fridays and Saturdays, it features live music and a diverse selection of tipples. Choose from cocktails, spirits, locally handcrafted micro-brews or something non-alcoholic, and let your worries melt away. Photo:

Another boon of the hotel is the Four Seasons Salon and Day Spa, a space which promotes peace and tranquility. Treatments on offer can be split into two categories: massage therapies and beauty treatments.

The customized massage packages can be booked for 30, 60 or 90-minute sessions on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The skilled masseuse offers a variety of styles with different effects, from fusion stone massages and deep tissue therapy to soft tissue melting and head massages.

Beauty treatments can be booked from Thursday to Sundays and offer more than just your standard mani-pedi. Special treatments include pore cleansing, OPI gel polishes, foot massages, and facial treatments. The cosmetologist also offers wedding make-up and hair styling for brides getting ready for their big day.

Miscauno Island is a golfer’s paradise, as the island has its own Four Seasons Golfing Course. The par-34 course runs along the banks of the Menominee River, incorporating the sprawling woods of the island as hazards alongside tricky bunkers and rolling greens. The 2,809-yard course was developed in 1924 by W. D. Mann, and the signature sixth hole is bordered by both the Menominee and the Miscauno Rivers. There’s a challenge here for all skill levels, and available to play from 8 a.m. till dusk.

Activities on Miscauno Island, WI

Miscauno Island is a hotspot for water sports, and the hotel happily rents out kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats from its front desk. The Menominee River is the ideal place for amateurs and pros alike to test the water, but less active guests will also be happy to learn there are pontoon boat tours. The pontoon boat can also be reserved at the front desk, providing an easygoing tour of the area led by the knowledgeable captain.

During the winter, the area is very popular for snow sports thanks to the Wisconsin weather. There are snowshoes available to rent from the front desk, and visitors with their own skis in the winter are encouraged to try the island’s cross country ski trail. It features breathtaking views of the island, as well as being an enjoyable way to spend time in the relaxing resort.

Of course, in keeping with the resort’s name, there are activities on the island to suit all four seasons of the year. Within the resort there are sand volleyball and double tennis courts for players of team sports, as well as biking, hiking, and island hopping for the adventurous during the warm months. The hotel also boasts an ice skating rink during winter.

Beyond the island itself, Marinette County is one of Wisconsin’s most wondrous locations and full of varied, vibrant waterfalls. These can be seen on a self-guided waterfall and hiking tour in a pleasant afternoon. The large amounts of water also provides ample locations to try out fishing or white water rafting without venturing far from the island retreat.

For the less outdoorsy, there’s also the nearby Island Resort and Casino which offers many different games to try your luck on. Families can spend some time visiting the DeYoung Family Zoo, which combines natural settings and spacious habitats to showcase fascinating animals as well as educate visitors.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to leave the island retreat, there are midnight ghost tours running around the Four Seasons’ own hotel building. Many guests report experiencing the supernatural at the hotel, so perhaps uneasy sleepers should skip this activity.
