The beautiful Lodge at Torrey Pines was built and is decorated in American Craftsman style, a design movement centered on handwork, simplicity, and use of local natural materials. Its rooms and suites feature custom-made furniture, and use fine fabrics and carpeting. All rooms have sumptuous beds decked in Egyptian cotton linens and quilted duvets, marble and granite bathrooms, safes large enough for laptop computers, Bose stereos, data hookups, and complimentary wireless internet. The Gamble Suite is the largest in the Lodge. Its 2,500 square feet includes a Presidential Parlor, private balconies, a full kitchen, two fireplaces, and two bedrooms, one with a king bed, and the other with two queen beds. The bathrooms have double vanities, a walk-in shower, and an oversized tub. Large working areas make the rooms ideal for business guests as well as vacationers. The Blacker Suite has the same amenities as The Gamble Suite, but is a little smaller, at 2,000 square feet.

The Thorsen Suite overlooks the 18th hole of the Torrey Pines Golf Course, and is 800 square feet. In its living room is a huge fireplace, and there is another fireplace on the balcony. Its bedroom has a king bed, its bathroom has a Jacuzzi, a fireplace, and a sofa, and the suite has a mini-bar and a small fridge.

Dining

The restaurants at The Lodge at Torrey Pines are high-class establishments with excellent cuisine focused on farm-to-table dining. Both establishments on the property use fresh local produce, and have extraordinary wine lists.

A.R. Valentien was an early 20th century painter and ceramic artist who spent most of his career documenting in art the great botanical diversity of California. A.R. Valentien’s, the restaurant named for him, contains original Valentien artwork in its magnificently timbered dining room.

Overlooking the golf greens and the Pacific Ocean, the fine eatery serves regional San Diego cuisine, and offers a tasting menu with wine pairings. Several small rooms and plush booths are available for privacy, and are illuminated with stained glass lanterns.

The Grill at Torrey Pines is a more casual restaurant that highlights slow-cooked farm fresh food and local craft beers. Diners are seated indoors or on its expansive patio that features fire pits and excellent views. Photo:

Shiatsu and acupressure are on the menu, both of which release blocked energy and stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The Head over Heels massage pampers hands, feet, and scalp, and the Torrey Pines Par-fection massage is perfect for after golf, as it indulges the entire body, with an emphasis on the tired forearms that a round of golf will cause.

In addition to ballrooms and cozy fireside parlors, The Lodge at Torrey Pines has two beautiful outdoor wedding venues.
