Monterey Bay Inn views

Set on the stunning California coast popular with visitors from San Francisco, the Monterey Bay Inn has been welcoming guests for over fifty years. The Monterey Bay Inn offers sweeping views of the rocky shores of the Pacific Ocean, a roof-top hot tub overlooking the bay and comfortable rooms only minutes away from noted tourist attractions, beaches and restaurants.

In the early 1900s, Cannery Row, where the inn is set, was the center of the sardine canning industry. Over-fishing and a terrible fire put an end to area commerce shortly after World War II. However, the Cannery Row district had been immortalized by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck, and swept along by the popularity of the novel Cannery Row, the waterfront street converted old canning factories into hotels and restaurants. The world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium opened on Cannery Row in 1984, further popularizing the Cannery Row district; the Aquarium is located only minutes from the Monterey Bay Inn.

The proprietors of the Monterey Bay Inn own a restaurant just down the street from the hotel, the famous Sardine Factory. Opened in 1968, The Sardine Factory is world-famous for its wine list, one of the most extensive in the world, and for its mouth-watering seafood. Popular among celebrities, Prince Albert II of Monaco and Julia Child have eaten here. Clint Eastwood used the restaurant’s bar in his film Play Misty for Me.

The Sardine Factory’s abalone bisque was served at the inaugural dinner of former President of the United States, Ronald Reagan. The Sardine Factory focuses on fresh, sustainable seafood and prime USDA Dry Aged Beef. It has a children’s menu and many gluten-free offerings. Its wine list, which has 1,800 labels and over 32,000 bottles, is the largest in the United States and includes an 1888 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The restaurant’s wine cave is dotted with 16th century art and antiques. It is a sumptuous place to dine, with unforgettable food and a welcoming atmosphere.

Visitors there can get up close and personal with African penguins, view the habitat of sea otters, arguably the cutest animals in existence, view the gigantic kelp forest, home to a multitude of sea life, and in the aquarium’s habitats, visitors can see giant pacific octopi, tiny sea urchins, sea turtles, puffins and 200-pound sea bass. One day is not enough to appreciate this wonderful aquarium.

Another popular and beloved way to spend time in the Monterey area is along 17-Mile Drive, a route around the Monterey Peninsula that hugs the rocky coastline and offers scenic vistas of the Pacific Ocean, stately mansions, the world-famous Pebble Beach golf course and a forest of cypress trees.
