Healdsburg Inn

Situated at one of the premier addresses in the town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County, Healdsburg Inn was built in 1901 and underwent extensive renovations between 2004 and 2005. Formerly known as the Kruse Building, it was once home to Wells Fargo & Company. Up until 2004, it was a bed and breakfast inn run by Jenny Genkins.

Though the building maintains its original architectural features like brick walls exposed in the interior, it now includes a number of modern comforts designed to make guests feel at home. Visitors to this inn can marvel at the work of Italian stone masons dating back to the 19th century, or they can feel grand ascending the original staircase.

While the streets outside the inn are buzzing with life on the plaza, inside the inn guests are transported to a country inn feel, where vineyards are not far off in their imaginations. The smooth green and cream tones that are found in the décor of the hotel only aid in bolstering that feel. The inn forms part of the Four Sisters Inns collection, comprised of 17 boutique inns in and around California. Photo: Photo: Healdsburg Inn

Guests who yearn to explore the surroundings are welcome to make use of the free bicycles to see the town of Healdsburg. Before visiting the hotel, guests are encouraged to inquire about their seasonal offers, as these include amenities that vary according to the season and may not be available to regular bookings.

Ask any local about Healdsburg and they immediately begin with stories about the town before the renovation or renaissance, depending on the view point of the story-teller. Situated in Sonoma valley, the town came to life in 1857 and soon the promise of what it would be become one day started sprouting in the plaza. These days, the small town is renowned for the mixed bag of attractions it offers guests. In the plaza, jazzy notes create a warm and inviting tone, while country roads lead out of the town, winding their way through vineyards.

The antithesis of what one would expect from a small town, Healdsburg is alive with art, food and wine on the artisanal scale. Shop organic local produce, or check-in at the Healdsburg Inn for an intimate boutique hotel escape. There are also bookstores and ample opportunities to go antiquing.

Not only is the town a gem among wine country, it also offers world-class luxuries like spas and museums. For those who came to the country for the fresh air and the crunch of leaves under their feet, the town offers a variety of outdoor parks where visitors can sprawl out with a picnic or on a bench. The adventurous need not stifle a yawn when thinking about Healdsburg, as there are also hot air balloon rides through the hills and vineyards surrounding the town. There are canoe or kayak trips available in the surrounding area.

Dining in the town of Healdsburg is not limited to organic fare, as visitors can have their fill with a variety of cuisines from around the world. Tuck into a Mexican meal for something spicy or opt for Italian when feeling romantic. The options are endless and palates are never far from sated.

For something on the unique side of entertainment, why not combine comfort and adventure with a Segway tour. Taking guests through two wineries, the tour operators will also teach riders how to operate the Segway before whizzing through the Redwood forest surrounding the town.

Another aspect that makes Healdsburg a brilliant destination is that its location is the convergence of three of the largest wine regions in Sonoma County. This gives visitors a choice of almost 100 tasting rooms and wineries, from small boutique wineries to larger established labels. Among these vineyards, guests will also find the odd brewery popping up, and these local draughts are of course stocked in the bars of Healdsburg. Lastly there are also flower farms, where fresh flowers can be bought and floral classes are available.

With so much to choose from, visitors to Healdsburg will be exposed to an eclectic but chic atmosphere, where artisanal goods, fine wine and entertainment are never far off. With the location of the Healdsburg Inn being right on the plaza, most of these attractions will effectively be right outside the guest’s front door.

Guests of Healdsburg Inn have the luxury of ordering an in-room spa treatment. Not all rooms are able to accommodate treatments, so it is advised that guests find out from the inn if they are able to do so in their room.
