The Steamboat Art Museum is housed in the First National Bank/Rehder Building, which was built in 1905 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The building is significant for its unique architectural style, its age, and degree of preservation and the fact that it symbolized the progression of the area around it, which grew from a frontier town in the early 1900’s to a bustling and economically viable commercial community in the 21st century.

The original building was constructed in a combination of the Romanesque and Renaissance Revival styles and despite being renovated and restored, has maintained its historical and architectural integrity. Today, the Rehder building stands in the center and as an anchor for the downtown business district of Steamboat Springs, as well as an icon for the newly designated Downtown Historic District.
