The Homestead is a golf and spa resort located on 15,000 acres in Virginia's Allegheny Mountains. The three golf courses offer distinct layouts and challenges. The Cascades Course, opened in 1923, features a mountain layout. The Lower Cascades golf course has wide-open fairways and challenging bunker placements.
The Old Course has the oldest first tee in continuous use in the U.S. Originally built in 1892 as a part of a six-hole layout, the course was expanded to 18 holes in 1913. It was recently redesigned and now includes a driving range and a putting green. If you would like to improve your game, the Golf Advantage School at The Homestead offers individual and group instruction.
In 2013, the hotel launched the famous Canyon Ranch Spa. The spa was originally built in 1892 - the four-story Historic Landmark building has been restored to its original Victorian-style appearance.
Guests can choose from a number of treatments, including Swedish Massage, Mineral Bath, Mountain Laurel Soak and various face and body treatments.
The spa houses a full service salon featuring hairstyling, manicures, pedicures and skin care therapies. Guests can relax next to the indoor or outdoor pools filled with hot springs mineral water. Plan a trip on Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas to enjoy the indoor facilities.
Visit the nearby Jefferson Pools, located five miles from the hotel, which were developed in the mid 1750s. Named after Thomas Jefferson who visited in 1818, the pool is about 120 feet in circumference.
It is housed in an octagonal wooden building which is considered the oldest spa structure in America. You can soak in the mineral-rich warm spring waters and get a massage in one of the private treatment rooms.
If you are vacationing with your family, the Homestead KidsClub offers a number of activities for kids ages 3 through 12, including science and art projects, fishing, tennis, hiking, biking, horseback rides, falconry demonstrations, skiing, ice skating and snow tubing. Kids can also get a custom-designed Kids Massage, a Teen Facial and other treatments at the spa.
There are 506 renovated guest rooms and suites with traditional furniture, patterned carpets and floral draperies.
The Dining Room offers continental cuisine and a distinctive wine list. At night, guests can enjoy live music and dancing in the Dining Room. Other dining venues include the 1766 Grille, the Casino Club Restaurant and Sam Snead's Tavern.
In the winter, guests can dine at the Mountain Lodge Restaurant. In the summer, golfers can eat at the Cascades Club Restaurant after they finish their round of golf.
