Claremont Club & Spa is an oasis of peace and luxury in the heart of bustling Berkeley, California. Only twenty minutes away from downtown San Francisco by car or ferry, this regal hotel has dramatic views of San Francisco Bay, twenty-two acres of landscaped gardens, a world-class spa, and a club that is available for annual membership or daily use.
Claremont Club & Spa has a fascinating history. In the mid-19th century, a Kansas farmer struck it rich in the California Gold Rush. His wife wanted a castle, so he bought 11,000 acres and built one for her. In the course of the succeeding 160 years, the hotel has burned down, been tumbled in an earthquake, and was forfeited in a game of checkers. The Claremont as it is today is a serene haven of palatial accommodations with luxury at every turn.

The Claremont Club’s spa is world-famous and rightly so. It has so many different offerings, and focuses on holistic health.
Every spa guest is invited to enjoy pre-spa treatment. This three-tier offering concentrates on hydrotherapy, beginning with a soak in the salt-water Jacuzzi. After getting out of the hot tub, guests are ushered into the Eucalyptus Steam Room, where the curative powers of eucalyptus clear the nasal and sinus passageways and relax stiff muscles and joints. Finally, guests take a multi-head shower, which cleanses the body, releases stress, and increases circulation. In between or after pre-spa treatments, guests are welcome to use the Relaxation Lounge and enjoy an array of complimentary teas, coffees, and juices.
Massages are a speciality of the Claremont Hotel’s spa, and many differing types are offered: the Therapeutic Massage uses long strokes and medium pressure to release tension; the Hot Stone Massage uses heated basalt rocks to relieve stiff, sore muscles; the pre-natal massage eases the aches and pains of pregnancy; and the Tibetan Sound Massage is punctuated by the ringing of Tibetan bells, which relax and center the customer. You can also get Sport Massages to address sports-related stiffness, pain, and injury; the Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage, which uses long rhythmic strokes; Deep Muscle Massages to relieve painful muscle aches; or relaxing Neck and Shoulder massages.
Two other massage-related options are available at The Claremont Spa: Shiatsu, which uses pressure points along the body to harmonize energy flow, and Reflexology, which helps heal the body using pressure points on the feet.
Many different body treatments are on offer at The Claremont Spa. The Lavender Essence comes with exfoliation and a lavender-oil massage that soothes the body and awakens the senses. The Ayurvedic Holistic treatment exfoliates the body with exotic herbs and provides a deep massage to stimulate the body’s vital energy flow and harmonize the body systems. The Brightening Body Scrub uses bamboo and fruit essences while it buffs your body to detoxify and brighten the skin. The Moor Mud Body Wrap encases the body in hot mud to purify and re-mineralize the skin, and combines that with a scalp massage, a facial massage, and an application of moisturizer. The Aroma Radiance Salt Glow starts with exfoliation using Himalayan Sea Salt and follows with a body wrap of olive oil and rosehip.
Mineral baths are available in private Jacuzzis. Guests may choose their desired minerals, and then they are left to soak away their aches, strains, and stress.
The Claremont Hotel Spa has several different facials. From exfoliation, chemical peels, and nourishing skin masks to reduction of inflammation and age-defying facial and eye-area lifts, the spa has something for every type of skin.
Also available at the Claremont Spa are acupuncture, hair styling and colouring, makeup application, manicures, and pedicures.
